Lent: A Season of Reflection and Renewal
Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday. In the historic church, Lent became a season of preparation for celebrating Easter. The season began as a period of fasting and preparation for baptism by new believers, and then became a time of spiritual renewal for all Christians. All are welcome to participate in the following opportunities for worship and communal formation during this holy season!
Ash Wednesday, February 18, CoS Sanctuary
Begin the Lenten journey with a quiet, meditative time of worship. The noon hour (12:00-1:00 pm) will feature contemplative instrumental music and self-guided prayer prompts for both kids and adults. The CoS pastors will also be available for the imposition of ashes anytime between noon and 1:00 pm.
The evening service, starting at 7:00 pm, will include scripture, prayers, congregational songs and a homily, and the imposition of ashes. This service will be livestreamed and nursery care will be provided for children age 3 and younger.
Lenten Evening Prayer, Wednesdays, March 4 & 18, 7:00 pm
Enter into a time of continued reflection and renewal during these midweek worship services in the CoS sanctuary. These times of worship will include contemplative music, prayer, scripture, and silence. Each will be an hour or less. The services will be livestreamed and nursery care for children 3 years and younger will be provided.
A Simple Lent: Coffee & Conversation, Sundays in Lent
For the Lenten season, Coffee & Conversation will be simplified to help turn our attention to those less fortunate and to build community with each other. Refreshments provided during this time will be scaled back and simplified. All are invited to bring canned food items to share with People’s Pantry and Loop Ministries during this season.
CoS meets weekly for worship on Sundays at 8:45 and 10:45 am. Our Sunday gatherings also include faith formation for all ages from 9-9:45 am, and Coffee & Conversation (a time of food and fellowship) from 9:50-10:30 am.
